There are many ways to get started. The first I find most important, is to love what you do and really enjoy the process. Of course, that’s just one opinion. There are also many who will tell you how tiring Youtube-ing is and how much time to edit, film, script etc.
Camera – You can start Youtube by just having very simple equipment. One of the camera I love for starters is the Iphone. It makes it easy to get started and less intimidating.
Lights – Start by using daylight
Bravery & How not to Give a F**k (book by Manson) – to get started and stay consistently so, is the most difficult. You need to be brave enough to accept that the first 10-50 videos you make is not going to be perfect or even near 80% to what you see online. But if you don’t give yourself room to make crappy videos, you will not get to the “perfect videos”.
You – is ok to show how you fail or fall. You are human, and that’s what Youtube special. You are not a put-together TV personality by a TV crew of 20. You are one man or woman who is just there with your camera. That’s the beauty and what’s make it so attractive. So when you are terribly embarrassed about those mistakes you are making in the video, take it as a lesson.
Energy & Staying Motivated – Find and be with someone who knows how to lead and team motivate. You know when you meet these group of stars. People queue up to want to work for them. Form groups and inner circles with people who can inspire you. Still don’t get it? Remember when you worked for someone, who is highly technical, politically correct but has the 10th employee quitting? Not everyone grew up knowing how to lead and organise human beings. A leader call them energy suckers. To become successful, one tip is to stay away from people who zap you of your energy leaving you disappointed. Be with energy-givers, natural leaders, with followers who naturally want to work for them. Find them, and keep them. You see these natural leaders in large Multinationals like Google, PwC, Amazon, Apple. These organisations know how to hire, train and leaving these “alumni” naturally good with people (everyone has technical skills, we don’t need computers). Natural leaders don’t get stuck because they get things done without tearing the team member apart, they move up and usually make big bucks. To become successful in life, you need to learn from the best. Don’t scrap the bottom of the barrel.
Learn – constantly be learning. There is a lot to learn and you can easily get ahead using the mistakes earlier youtubers have figured out and made. Follow and subscribe. Take a look at your favourite creators and learn. We are community and we are here to share.
